Tom Quayle is at the forefront of todays ‘super’ guitarists. Guitarists who have a built a loyal following on various Social Media platforms by the unerring quality and brilliance of their virtuoso performances. Toms trademark Legato style of Rock/Fusion has seen him rise to the top tier of professional musicians and he is highly sought after for appearances and clinics around the world.

He’s also a Bona Fide Geek!

It’s no surprise then that when we offered to build a Custom System for him, we discovered he was already a big fan and customer of Scan.

The Concept

As a premier figure in today’s Internet driven Music Business, Tom not only has to record his music perfectly, but also to edit the copious videos he releases as part of his monthly output for his legion of followers.

To that end, we designed a system that could accommodate all his editing and recording needs in one silent box, but also one that looked super cool.

Customised housing and visuals

Featuring his signature TQ logo, and a programmable array of RGB lighting with which he can match the lighting in his studio, the PC itself is a thing of true beauty to anyone with the aforementioned Geek gene.

What's Inside?

The system inside is no less fitting with the latest Intel Alder Lake i9 12900K 16 core / 24 thread CPU. As the highest specification chip in its range this is already an extremely powerful solution, which is further supported by 64GB of DDR5 memory and 2TB of the fastest NVMe 4.0 storage with a Samsung 980 Pro drive. This ensures the quickest load-times and plenty of bandwidth making it ideal for handling large workloads such as streaming heavy audio libraries and video projects.

To handle the video editing these are backed up with an MSI RTX 3080 SUPRIM X graphics card. This high-end Nvidia GPU features 10GB of on-board graphics memory running alongside the setup’s powerful processor, allowing for effortless handling of 4K video editing and gaming sessions. The card features MSI’s own Tri Frozr cooling system allowing for low noise even under high-loads, coupled with the ability to fully spin-down those fans when not under intensive load making it perfect for the studio.

Connectivity

Rounding off the hardware and for connectivity to the outside world we find Wi-Fi 6 with Bluetooth and 2.5Gb Ethernet. Along with a mix of USB ports for the directly connected devices we also find Thunderbolt 4 as the host for Tom’s Antelope Orion Synergy Core. Whilst already a world class interface the power on offer from the system allows projects to be run constantly on a 32 buffer and easily facilitates treating native effects acting just like hardware, with an overall latency time of just 1.5ms allowing for easy processing and monitoring whilst playing.

Operating System

The system is made complete with the latest copy of Windows 11, which bring improved scheduling to support the Intel 12 series chips, ensuring that Tom gets the very best out of this extremely powerful setup.
