The bass guitar is the lowest-pitched member of the guitar family. A plucked string instrument, played with either a pick or fingers, the bass guitar is similar in appearance and construction to the electric guitar, but features a longer scale neck and is commonly found in either 4, 5 or 6 stringed variations.

Acoustic guitar amplifiers are specifically designed to produce a clean, transparent, acoustic sound. They will usually have a relatively flat frequency response so as not to "colour" the sound too much.

Mixing desks come in Analogue and Digital varieties. Some have built in audio interfaces. Desks combine and route audio signals and mostly contain built-in microphone preamps.

Closed back headphones are more coloured than open back designs, but also isolate the listener and restrict sound leakage. This makes them ideal for tracking, recording or even just for listening whilst outside of the studio.

When it comes to Amplifiers, it's all about the voicing. Guitar amps are voiced especially for Guitars, which is why an Electric guitar just DI'd into a PA doesn't sound so good. Most Digital mixers mimic the look of the old analogue desks, but have the advantage of no added noise, easy signal routing and being able to save and load whole templates. There are also usually many on-board effects getting rid of the need for external hardware.

Electronic Drums have come on a long way since the classic hexagonal Simmons kit of the 80's. Kits now often use multisampled drums to replicate the different tone of drums hit at different volumes. Some kits use mesh drum heads which aim to replicate (almost silently) the feeling of hitting a real drum skin.
